Hobie Alter began his surfboard business in his father's garage in Laguna Beach, California in the 1950's. Little did he know that with the help of Dick Metz, Hobie Surfboards would become a highly recognized global brand and the first of its type in the surfing world. Dick Metz, founder of the Surfing Heritage and Culture Center (SHACC), was the driving force behind Hobie's growth and expansion around the globe. Along the pathway of opening up Hobie stores and distribution agreements, Dick was living the surfer's dream of finding empty waves, tropical paradises and his adventures helped shape an industry while influencing surfers everywhere. Join Dick as he takes us through the history of Hobie Surfboards and much, much more.
